Quite a few major things have happened. First and foremost, we got ourselves cats. Not just one but four. I'll probably write about it later but err that's not a promise.

Secondly I am back in Malaysia for good. Yeah lover was made redundant last June and we headed home last august, four months shy to our tenth year in Qatar. Basically we are in square one as we were in 2005 before we left. Except now I am not working. Alhamdulillah ala kulli hal. The year 2015 is the year that is quite challenging for the oil and gas industries. You see many major oil companies are laying off their workers. Qtar is still at The process of laying many expats off.

Naturally we tried to find work there so we can continue living in qtar. Haziq has not finished his ALevels and going home quite unexpectedly can be topsy turvy. Qtar however is adamant to make people leave with no possibility of allowing us to continue. To save money, we decided to leave, sold most things and shipped the rest. Now here I am, slowly building new home, readying myself for new adventure with my lover, kids and cats.

So what can I offer the world next? Guide me Ya Rabb.
Lollieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556102439572765955noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8534501.post-51158029795005155822015-05-22T10:49:00.001+03:002015-05-22T10:54:01.400+03:00Mental Strength

I am still taking my Quran and arabic classes.

While my Quran lessons have been progressing forward, I am sad to say my arabic class have regressed. I have cut down to one arabic class and I am only learning Quranic Arabic*. And even then, I am making a hangat-hangat tahi ayam effort for it.

So I had exam last week. As expected my arabic results does smell like a warm tahi ayam and it is not the flowery kind mind you.

I do, however, put a considerable effort on my hifdh classe. Signing up to any other classes that I can. Because, I have to tell you now, it is not easy. Allah Mustaan.

I often read some simplistic tips that people give for one to memorise that go something along this line : One ayah a day and you will memorise the Quran in XX number of years. If it's that easy, then perhaps yeah, but truly the effort goes beyond that.

First you need to memorise the new ones. Meanwhile you must make a huge effort to retain the old ones. The more you go, there will be more old ones. You must remember all of them. This include you should not miss any harakat, you should not be confused with the word 'wa' and 'fa' or omitted or added them to your whimsical desire. or confuse 'hum' and 'kum' or is it 'ka' at the end of the word. You must not mixed up all ayat that are similar but are found in different surah.

Meanwhile the teacher will give you longer new ones because your brain is also doing weight lifting.

And all of these require a huge amount of time in your day.

I am not complaining, mind you. I do enjoy it. It's the best distraction that I need. Everyday you learn something new both in the Quran and also about yourself.

And certainly I am finding out something about myself. Mostly it is very humbling because I know now, I taklah pandai mana pun. And secondly many times you'll learn something in this surah and you will find something bigger in another. Then I learn to shut my mouth because I know, that I do not know much (making it difficult to blog).

But now, at this very moment, I need to learn to have mental strength.

You see, when practicing in the class or reciting in front of people, I could usually be fluent and actually feeling the ayah while I am reciting it. This is when you'll find that your tone is just right and words just come out smoothly.

In the exam room though, I became almost blank. I make mistakes major and silly. I got confused. I feel there is a voice (Insya Allah not schizophrenic), so what's the next word, this is difficult. What is it? what? what? I will forget. I will forget . these are chants in my head making a mantra.

This year-end exam was quite a disaster. I forgot the simplest of ayah. I got stuck here and there. My tajweed pusing-pusing macam gasing.

Perhaps I am not asking Allah enough. Or have been neglecting some duties. Or are not sincere enough. Not making repentance enough. Or all these combination above. Ya Rabb I ask for taufiq and hidayah.

And also I need to find mental strength and learn not to allow my nerves get over me. I need to be in control of my mental strength to be in a battle. The battle is in my head.

I ask Allah to open this door for me. This is on top of other effort that i should do. If you have suggestions, I welcome them.

But meanwhile let us hold on to this. Many times repeated in Surah Qamr.

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

I am certain, that this journey will reveal me more of my inner layers and I must learn to deal with. Surely there is no success without pain. Ya Rabb send me guidance.

*Quranic arabic concentrates mostly on grammar thus you will learn why is the harakat the way it is and so forth. The downside is you will probably not learn much on how to speak or construct a sentence or even know many vocabularies. It helps the memorising though.

I started to blog sometime in 2004. My last post, before this one was written in 2014. That's ten years! That's a whole decade.

Anyway among pet peeves topic that i would probably mention here and there during this ten years blogging is, I'm fat lah, makin tembam lah. Someone said i nampak sihat and berisilah. All the work.

Tell you what, i want that weight back! Yeah the weight that i used to complain about, i want it back! Because however fat i think I was, it is not as much as now.

Hello 2015!

This is because, one doesnt memorise just by remembering the words, rather one also memorises the placement of the verse. Is it at the top of the page, bottom of the page or the next page. Even the scribbles in the page, or dog-eared will be planted in your memory.

This tip will become more pertinent as your memorisation increases and the verses become similar.

Having said that, not everyone can keep the same mushaf in the entirety. Me for example.

It is important that the new mushaf has the same layout. And thus i learned that differnt mushaf are printed differently.

The top one is Sya's quran. Please ignore the state of the page. This is generally the format we use. Surah jumuah starts at the beginning of the page on the right side. The other mushaf, has totally diffrent orientation. Jack is using this one while we are on a break here, and jack (and me) are having difficulty trying to identify the position of the verses.

So there you go. Try to keep the same mushaf all throughout your memorisation adventure. Otherwise get a mushaf of the same format.

Community message brought to you from Lollies.

Lollieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556102439572765955noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8534501.post-62822210846361899442014-05-02T07:41:00.000+03:002014-05-02T07:57:13.449+03:00Roller Coaster Ride

I went to UAE last year (cerita lama dah basi). Dubai and Abu Dhabi specifically. We took some time to enjoy some of the man-made leisure in these super flashy cities.

We got to the Ferrari World and of course the first ride we took was the The Formula Rossa - the fastest roller coaster in the world. I know it promotes itself, to be the fastest in the world, but I am always a skeptic when people make claims.

And when I was on it, Ya Allah, it was fast! The track doesn't look that challenging but the speed is crazy. It goes on from 0-100km/h in 2 seconds flat and goes on to 240km/h tops.

I haven't been on roller coaster since 1997, and that one was only in Genting. The last one I had before was in Alton towers, UK. And yes I am a sucker for roller coaster, would always jump for the chance to be in the most front cabin or whichever that is deemed the scariest ride.

So when I was on the Formula Rossa, I was expecting the same feeling but when the speed got on me, in my mind I was thinking, I must be aging for this is really scary. On top of that, I kept thinking about the kids, especially jackJack. I was so worried that they would be chucked out of their seats. Jack is so thin, I was so worried he would slip out of his belt.

I guess now my worries have shifted to the kids unlike before when I care only for myself. Motherhood?

Anyway, only after that I made some research and apaprently none of teh coasters I ever ride before was in the ranking of top ten fastest coasters in the world.

1. Formula Rossa, Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi UAE - 240km/h
2. Kingda Ka, Six Flags Great Adventure, United States 206km/h
3. Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point, United States- 190 km/h
4. Dodonpa, Fuji-Q Highland, Japan -172 km/h
5. Superman: Escape from Krypton, Six Flags Magic Mountain, United States - 167 km/h
6. Ring°racer, Nürburgring, Germany -160.0 km/h
7. Steel Dragon 2000, Nagashima Spa Land, Japan - 153 km/h
8. Millennium Force, Cedar Point, United States - 150 km/h
9. Leviathan, Canada's Wonderland, Canada - 148 km/h
10. Intimidator 305, Kings Dominion, United States - 140 km/h

That explains why I thought it was so scary. Not because I am aging and what not. Because it was really super fast. Nothing like I have ever ride before.

And thus I conclude, I am still young. At heart.

If you are reading the quran from the back that is from Juz 30, you will notice Allah will differentiate people into two groups. The One who is given the book on the right hand and the one on the left (or the back. Still left hand).

You will find this in surah inshiqaq 84:7-15

Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, (7)
He surely will receive an easy reckoning, (8)
And will return to his family in joy! (9)

But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, (10)
He will invoke (for his) destruction, (11)
And he shall enter a blazing Fire, and be made to taste its burning. (12)
Verily, he was among his people in joy! (13)
Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! (14)
Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! (15)

Then you will find something of similar theme in Surah al haqqah (Juz 29).

Al Haqqah 69: 19-37
Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Here! read my Record! (19) "Surely, I did believe that I shall meet my Account!" (20)
So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. (21)
In a lofty Paradise, (22)
The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand. (23)
Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past! (24)

But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! (25)
"And that I had never known, how my Account is! (26)
"Would that it had been my end (death)! (27) "My wealth has not availed me; (28)
"My power (and arguments to defend myself) have gone from me!" (29)
(It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him; (30)
Then throw him in the blazing Fire. (31)
"Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!" (32)
Verily, He used not to believe in Allâh, the Most Great, (33)
And urged not on the feeding of Al¬Miskîn (the poor),(34)
So no friend has he here this Day, (35)
Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, (36)
None will eat it except the Khâti'ûn (sinners, disbelievers, polytheists). (37)

These were the general idea that there will be two distinct groups in yaumul akhirah, the ashabul yamin (companions of the right) and Ashabul shimal (Companions of the left) if you read from Juz 30 that is. Then you set your mind that you want to be among the ashabul Yamin, those who will be given the Book of Deeds on the right hand. Ya Rabb.

Then as you proceed and reach to Surah al Waqiah, you realised, wait a minute, Allah says that there are three groups. And Ashabul yamin is not the highest rank.

al Waqiah 56: 7-11
And you (all) will be in three groups. (7)
So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands) — how (fortunate) will be those on the Right Hand!
(As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). (8)
And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands) — how (unfortunate) will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). (9)
And those foremost [(in Islâmic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islâm,] will be foremost (in Paradise). (10)
These will be those nearest (to Allâh). (11)

And there are those who are SABIQUUN. The one who is foremost in all the deeds. They don't just do what is enough, they do extra extra extra on top of what is obligatory. They are the first to do all the good deeds. They will rank the highest and will the one closest to the Lord.

Allahhu Mustaan. may we be given tawfiq and hidayah.
Me and my classmates were having a chat with my quran teacher on the importance of having the correct makraj of the arabic letter less we will change the meaning of the intended word. Then my friend told me what happen to some of her friends.

They were made to know the sunnah of reciting surah al Kahf on Friday. In the spirit of 'we listen, we obey', the sisters grab the opportunity and religiously subscribe to the sunnah.

Among the virtue

Abu al-Darda (Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, Whoever commits ten verses from the beginning Surat al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.[Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai, and others; the wording is Muslims]

However, due to misunderstanding or interpretation, instead of reciting al kahf, the sisters recited al Qaf instead.

As you know al kahf is spelt الكهفwhile surah qaf is merly ق and the pronounciation of the letter kaf ك is not the same as qaf ق with the latter is heavier.

Thus a prove to why pronouncing the letter correctly is very important.

Howver there is an uneasiness in me when i heard this story. It is the lack of reading the proof yourself.

For any ibadah that you want to perform, there must be a clear valid proof either from the quran and sunnah that says prophet muhammad sallalhu alaihi wasalam was teaching it. The principle of fiqh is that all ibadah is haram unless there is a proof otherwise.

Checking out yourself forces you to think rather than swallow everything you are being told. Be very afraid to be in the group of the innovators because truly, the deed of the innovators is not accepted. You will avoid being led wrongly and fall among those in the wrong path. Naudzubillah.

Most of all, checking your facts after a lecture or a class, increases your understanding. may allah grant you the uderstanding of the deen.

The next time people ask you to recite al fatihah after someone's death, or surah yassin or whatever, check it out, what's the proof for it?

May allah guide us on the straight path.

I heard a mother said to her child, "Why can't you be like so and so? She has memorise so much of the Quran! You have done nothing."

Also, "Why can't you be more helpful like so and so. He helps his mum wash the dishes!"
Why can't you study more and score more like so and so, she alsways score.
Why can't you be more like so and so.....
And the list goes on.

First of all, comparing your child to someone else's is really unbecoming. It is as though you do not appreciate what you have and on top of that, this is the breeding ground for hasad on the child.

I have seen the hateful eyes or the resentment of a child who is probably compared by the parents so much to another child. All I can say, teach your kids adzkar from early on. May Allah protect.

There is another thing I like to point out too. It is most likely that when you see someone else's child seems to have a particular talent is because they have spend a considerable time practising it.

Someone who has memorise alot goes through actually sitting down memorising, revising old ones, hardship of remembering it, difficult times of forgetting it, cries, joys, sacrifice of their time for something else.

Someone who is good in swimming actually goes through years and years of practising it many times every week, muscle pain, feet cramps, cold, sacrificing time for other leisure for practising.

Someone who helps their mother in household chores means they have to be nagged, shouted at, preached, scolded for doing wrong, sacrificing their computer time for something dreadful like this.

And on the pinnacle of this is the mother who plans and plans, and implement, and analyse whether her plans are working, and finding other ways to improve, and the nagging, and the frustration, and the joys and sacrifice her OWN leisure time. It is very likely she has to drive to other side of town to find the best sheikh, the best swimming class, her time to look over the school work, her time to make research.

With Allah's help, prayers and her effort, Allah may or may not allow the favour to be given to her child, and she may continue to plan and try and plan and try and nag and pray harder.

What the rest of us see, is only the fruits of their labour.

And thus I do not think, it is reasonable that a mother make comparison between her child to others, if she has not gone through the very same process. If there is anyone she wants to blame, she can blame herself. (But it's never too late).

Stop comparing your child and others. Instead, put effort that we can raise our child as Allah leases. Observe his talent, prioritise the balance of dunya and akhirah and scout for ways. Ask Allah for tawfiq and hidayah that He gives you idea of how to go on. And you supervise the path. Be ready to lose your own leisure, ready for hard times, ready to motivate them, know when to push and when to motivate. It all requires effort. For even a ball to roll, it needs to be pushed.

And if Allah has favour you and your child for whatever success that He bestows, He is to be praised and thank. Masya Allah, la hawla quwwata illa billah.
I think I shall embrace certain mishaps concerning the internet and have found certain things quite funny will be likely be a sweet memory.

In one of the whatsapp group I'm in, one of the ladies was upset with me. She was upset because I keep using the word "LOL". She thought I was calling her some names. Short form of "toLOL" or perhaps "bahLOL"? Oh dear.

I have explained it to her and she is ok after that. No more merajuk and kecik hati. Alhamdulillah she confronted me because otherwise who is to know that she is merajukking. And now she is an expert of the word "LOL".

Perhaps now I should upgrade her to "ROFL" and no I will not teach her "LMAO"!

Haziq and some of his fellow friends in the masjid will be participating for a musabaqah (musabaqah means competition. can be used for any competition not necessarily Quran related) of quran memorisation sometime sometime in December.

I am slightly baffle though because up till now, the exact date of the competition is not announced. December break is coming and I do wish to take a break somewhere, but we can't plan anything much. I keep pressing Haziq but Haziq said none of them can tell him exactly when.

Since none of them speak english, I assumed its Haziq's not so good arabic is the problem here. However Haziq denies it.

The other day, one of the boys asked one of the sheikhs

When is the competition O Sheikh?

To this the sheikh replied, "What have you prepared for it?"

It's a joke, in case you can't see it.

Just a reminder, there is hadith of when there was a man who kept asking Prophet Muhamad sallallahu alaihi wasalam while he was giving a talk, "Mata sa'ah? Mata sa'ah? Mata sa'ah? When is the Hour? When is the Hour? When is the Hour? (The Hour means yaumul akhirah). Prophet sallalalhu alaihi wasalam replied, "What have you prepared for it?

Get it? get it?
Among the things that I love chatting with Haziq is about the time he spends in the masjid reciting to his sheikhs. His blue-eyed sheikh is really Masya Allah. I've blogged about him once but since I am on my Ipad, I can't figure out how to link the post.

Updated : This is the link. THE WISE and THE PATIENT

Haziq would say, when he got to the masjid, greet his teachers and all, he would then show his sheikh which page does he intend to read. The sheikh would take a look, close the mushaf and ask Haziq to recite and intermittently Haziq will make mistakes and blue-eyed sheikh would coreect him without the need to refer to the mushaf at all. Masya Allah.

Sometimes, blue-eyed sheikh gets a little tired. He would doze off while Haziq is still reading. But when Haziq make mistakes, he would raise his head and correct them. Haziq did deliberately make mistakes and lo and behold (to test his theory), blue-eyed sheikh will correct them. Masya Allah.

At other times, blue-eyed sheikh would read his own pages while listening to Haziq and perhaps three other boys reading. And he can still correct each of them when they make mistakes. Super masya Allah!

On a similar note but totally different standard, my teacher is trying to train my class to become Quran teachers ourselves (please pray for me ikhlas). Part of the training is, we have to listen to each other reading. Identify the memorisation mistakes and also tajweed, record them and correctly correct them. I would get flabbergasted with the recording while listening. First of all its difficult to identify their mistakes. The ladies in my class are already good in their reading. Occasionally they do make mistakes here and there but most of the time, i need to really listen to them and still not find any.

To top this, i usually get very sleepy when I listen to them. You'll find me dozing off only waking up when they have probably finished. Needless to say, I didn't find any mistakes in their reading. :P

May Allah bless all quran teachers around the world.

After some observation among the children whom I have met, I am concern to just how much they know from the Quran. Many 10-12 year olds I talk to are not fluent in their basic three quls and some have not even memorised it. I asked them, if you have not memorised these short surahs, what do you read for your solah then?

I am not sure whether some of us expat parents realise this, but our children are not living in Malaysia where you probably would just leave it for the kindergarten school teachers to teach them basic surahs and basic du'a. Not in this country. Not when you are abroad.

Allahu Mustaan.

As expat, learning the deen falls heavily on us. HEAVILY.

I am making a list of what I believe the kids should have memorised by heart. It maybe my opinion only. P

In this order

Al Fatihah
This should be memorised by age 5. You can stretch it to before 7 but seriously it should be before that because by 7 the child should be formally taught how to pray already. Having memorised al fatihah, would make the teaching process smoother Insya Allah.

The three quls
anytime before seven years old.

I cannot stress to you the importance of having these simple surahs as soon as possible. Not only these surahs are short, so kids can easily have this surah read in their prayers, but these surahs are so important in our daily like, from morning to before you go to sleep.

I am trying to cultivate the reciting of morning and evening adzkar to my K@FA kids and was surprised many have not memorised them yet.

Ayatul Kursi
I know this ayah is slightly long but it is such an important ayah in our life, I would personally make them memorise this before they reach seven also.

In the meantime, for me, I would casually make the daily du'a as daily routine. When repeated often, they would memorise this without much effort Insya Allah.

And of course even before seven, we would encourage the children to follow our solah. Ifthey have memorised al fatihah and some surahs, they can begin reciting them in solah.

Recitation in solah
I personally teach them the shortest ones. The one ruku'. the one in sujud. the one in between two sujuds. Then move to tashahud. and the last one Istiftah.

These should be tested and repeated often. Even when they are nine or ten, you must always ask them to repeat because I have caught my children reading tashahud for instance wrongly.

Again I am encouraging you to get your children to memorise the quran. The early surahs in Juzz amma is short and would it be easy for them Insya Allah.

But baby steps first. And I ask you in the name of Allah, if you have not already, take the responsibility in your hands. And take it seriously.

We are all answerable.

I was talking to my Japanese Muslim friend sometime after the devastating Tsunami in Japan 2011 happen. She was from the very same are that the Tsunami struck. her parents escaped the tsunami. She said, the area already has a very high wall to protect them from Tsunami.

JAPAN PREPARED WELL FOR TSUNAMI

In this article it says:

"An 1896 tsunami killed over 10,000 people in these villages, in some cases eradicating entire towns. In part because of that event, Japan's northern coastline is perhaps the best protected area in the world against tsunamis. Ten-meter high walls defend many towns. Road signs mark the beginning and end of inundation areas determined as such by sophisticated computer simulations. Evacuation routes are well-signed, and vertical evacuation is available in areas distant from high ground. Green belts designed to dissipate tsunami energy line most of the coast."

According to my friend, they always feel safe that they have the wall. No tsunami can ever get them. Really 10m wall is very high.

On the very day, the initial report of tsunami, the wave was about 3.5m high but it developed into a bigger tsunami after completely engulfing the towns. Watching the video is truly heart wrenching. Who can challenge Allah's force.

I read this ayah in surah Mulk and find it very chilling.

AL Mulk 67: 16-17

Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allâh), will not cause the earth to sink with you, and then it should quake?Or do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allâh), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning.

Human feel very secure. And confident and probably arrogant.

Just think Titanic. Challenger. Wallahu alam.

I am not saying all disasters are an immediate punishment. This is Allah's work. I am saying that we put our effort to have a sound protection for our abode and we rely on Allah to protect us from harm.

We are doing the story of Prophet Saleh alaihi salam. And the same theme happen here. Allah asks

Shuara 26: 146-152

Will you be left secure in that which you have here? (146) "In gardens and springs. (147) And green crops (fields) and date-palms with soft spadix. (148) "And you hew out in the mountains, houses, with great skill. (149) "So fear Allâh, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. (150) "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifûn [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], (151) "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." (152)

Allah reminded the people of Thamud on the blessings that Allah has given them, along with skills of making houses by boring the mountain. We have similar blessings as well.

What we need to do next is fear Allah and obey our Prophet sallalahu alaihi wasalam.

Seriously my mind is everywhere.
When you say a person is doing tahfiz or the person is a hafizul Quran, you would understand that the person is memorising the Quran or he has already memorise the Quran in its entirety.

Hifz (حفظ) literally means preserving or maintaining. And that is exactly what a person who is memorising the quran is doing. Not merely memorising, but rather preserving the quran.

Allah says in surah Hijr 15: 9 (check out the arabic word for the meaning guard)

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).

So many Muslims all over the world are preserving the Quran by memorising it that would probably make it impossible for one to destroy the Quran or corrupt it in total (except in the end of times). Perhaps this is one way that Allah guards His Book. Allah knows best.

Let us be among these people who rush to preserve the Quran and be among those in Allah's plan to guard His words. Not for fame. Not for praises. But to be Allah's agents. His slave who only seek Allah's pleasure.

The other day I received a message that is most pleasing Alhamdulillah.

I’m always amazed at the statement of al-Hasan al-Basri where he says that the hafidh of the Qur’an is not just preserving the Qur’an through his hifdh. No, rather the Qur’an is what is preserving him/her.

The more we surround ourselves with the Qur’an and busy ourselves in its recital and memorisation, the more Allah preserves us and protects us through it.

When we think about how, at times, thousands of Angels descended with just one Surah (e.g. Al-An’am) or one verse, it is no surprise then to know that Angels surround, protect, and walk alongside the huffadh (the one who memorises) of Qur’an who spend their days in the company of this Book. It is no surprise if – due to their continuous recital – they find their life blossoming, their affairs being taken care of, their illnesses being removed, their heart being settled in peace, things working out for them and so on. When you preserve the Qur’an, realise that the Qur’an preserves you tonnes more.

Not to say they won't be inflicted with difficulties (in fact as you can probably observe they are tested with tremendous tests), but when tests do come, Quran, along with his Eemaan, with Allah's leave, will preserve the person.

Preserve Allah and Allah will preserve you.

May Allah make us from amongst the people of Qur’an, and die upon Islam.

One such 'Attaar was riding into a marketplace on his mule, carrying his product with him, and true enough, he was swarmed by women even before he get to where he was going. They crowded him and his animal, asking him about prices and product.

Sometime a couple of years ago, Haziq and some of his friends were into pen tapping frenzy. Its merely tapping the pen onto anything to make rhythm of sound. Its quite catchy.

Three of them including Haziq decided to participate in a talent show routine. After sometime practising they got themselves a new member.

Now this new member is a loud-bullying type of person. Somehow something happen between him and another member that I called Ahmad al Yemeni. Than this new a member whom i now called Abdullah al diktatori, with all this assumed power kick al yemeni out of the team a few days before the contest.

Haziq al Malizi and another chap Farz al Seyloni was stumped but because they did nitbwant confrontation with al diktatori they kept their mouth shut went on practising.

Al Yemeni did ask Haziq to get him back in the team but he didnt know what to do, so left it at that.

They contested and got second place.

Then i had a real adult conversation with hadith.

The bad people are strong now, because those who are on the right are not bothered and just weak. While you are the majority, you still could not stand against al diktatori because both of you want to avoid confrontation.

But he is so argumentative.

True. And you allowed your friend be kicked out. There is a difference between hating argument and standing up for the wronged ones.

Just look around you now, we are weak because for a long time we allowed oppressors to reign. Trust me, its dark now but its only getting darker for the result in the future is our cowardice now.

Unfortunately standing up for the truth requires alot of hardship but there is honour in that.

Stand up for the truth even if you are the only one doing so.

We went through this hadith which is the 13th hadith in the Imam Nawawi's collection of 40 hadith. We learned and recapped briefly on how much the ansar were helping the muhaijireen particularly during the early immigration to Madinah.

Who would not be at awe on how much they will go to help. Sharing houses is perhaps most basic thing that they will do willingly, but some also offered half of their wealth and offered one of their wives. Almost unthinkable.

(And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allah and to please Him. And helping Allah (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say)

And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Bani An-Nadir), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves, even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful.

And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.

I learned about someone's helper this last few days. Even though a tad too late but Alhamdulillah, whatever that Allah has planned, is always good.

My friend's helper for six years is leaving. She has been a very good helper. She is the only Indonesian helper I know who can speak Kelantan fluently. This she gained after six year stint with her Kelantanese host.

With a heavy heart on both my friend and the helper, she asked to quit because she has become even more wary about the issue of mahram. That a woman shouldn't be travelling without mahram.

On her free time, she likes watching HUDA TV. HUDA TV is an islamic channel where you get to watch Islamic programmes of various topics. The quality is to be reckoned with. She has been picking up a lot of knowledge from it. She is learning the deen and she is picking up english as well. Masya Allah. She is further assisted by my friend's children who use english generously at home.

Out of her thirst of learning, she bought the Sahih Bukhari collection of hadith (The abridged one) and has read it cover to cover. Masya Allah I am simply impressed.

I met her the other day and talked to her. Yes she can speak reasonable english. I am just not sure if she can understand my BM because I don't do Kelantan language and my attempt on Indonesian language is laughable. So we speak rojak. Masya Allah I enjoyed talking to her. I encouraged her to learn when she gets home. I gave her some good lins that she can continue to listen to when she gets back. I am just not sure whether she will have access to the internet though. I also encourage her to teach. Her little knowledge on english could be helpful to the Indonesians especially the children. Teach what you can. She said she is not good enough. Make du'a that Allah opens up your way and if it's good for you, Allah will open a way.

I just love seeing people who love to improve themselves. It is so heart warming. An example of my new friend here, in six years she has gained knowledge of languages and her deen too. And all through self taught by the will of Allah.

I invited some people over for a friend's farewell yesterday. She came as well (with my friend of course). I gave her some books in english and encouraged her to learn. The look in her eyes when she got those books is akin to a child given an IPAD nowadays.

*LOVES*

May Allah increase her in knowledge that is beneficial.

Once upon a time, long long time ago, came a group of people in a desert area. They were searching for a precious jewel in this area as described in detail in their sacred book. In this area lived simple people of two different groups.

The new group were clever devious people. They were also merchants and experts in trade, jewel making and creating businesses. They worked hard in their business and they have fluorished in this new land. They even managed to control the trade of the area that even the locals were sidelined.

They used to give loans to the chief of the two local groups which the chief than would boast off their wealth to others. To ensure a strong anchor in this area, they conspired to spread mischief in this new land. Their approach: divide and conquer which was easy. Here in this land are two groups of locals who could never get along. The chiefs flaunt their wealth by the loans that they could easily provide. All they need to do is to ensure that the two local groups never reconcile and must never be able to meet eye to eye.

The new group of people would sit back and laughed at these local groups who are constantly at each other's throat. They are destroying each other in continuous war. The more the local groups are at war, the more the new group enjoyed their assumed power and wealth in this new country.

Once in a while, they would threaten the locals, "Once we find the jewel we are waiting for, be sure that we will destroy all of you!" The locals were always feeling inferior that this new group who is far wealthier has an upperhand above them.

After years of bloody, tiring war and destruction, the locals heard of a jewel found in another nearby land. Could it be, this is the jewel the new group has been talking about? What if we get to him first. And so they did.

The locals embraced islam at the hand of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasalam. The locals are the Aws and Khazraj, the two tribes that could not meet eye to eye. Under the guidance of Prophet Muhamamd salllahu alaihi wasalam and the unison of Islam, they came together as one. finally after long years of fighting, they found peace.

The Jews who were the new group of people who has been waiting for the jewel: Prophet Muhammad sallahu alaihi wasalam could not accept that this is the prophet that they have been waiting for. What? An Arab? How lowly!

This is now a problem because the Aws and Khazraj are not fighting anymore. They are united and strong and could eventually be stronger that them.

Then the jew plotted again. A man called Shas bin Qais an elderly of the Jews sent out his propaganda machinery. The media of the yesteryears. He sent out a young poet to sit among the arabs. To recite to them of the days of battle. To spark their memory by narrating scenes of their past conflicts and hostility and hatred among them. He recited to them verses that they used to compose satirising each other.

Slowly and surely the Aws and Khazraj remembered and hatred began to sow in their eyes. Past revenge has not been paid. Blood must shed! War must go on!

Little did they think, that this is a plot that when they began fighting again, the jews will enjoy their place and their expense and ensuring Islam dies together with the war.

Prophet sallahu alaihi wasalam rebuked them,
"O Muslims! By Allah! Have you entered the state of ignorance while I am still among you, after Allah guided you to Islam, honoured you with it, by it He cuts the fetters of ignorance from your necks, and delivered you from disbelief and united your hearts?"

The Aws and Khazraj immediately realised they mistake and embraced each other and was sorry that they had allow shaytan to control their mind. They become more united and stronger after.

We, on the other had, has regressed and deep in the abyss of disunity. We have the jews controlling the Shams area inciting fights and most like trying best to make sure the different gorups of Palestinians not to unite. The Muslim world are so divided that it is easy to slaughter whomever they wished. The have chiefs who love the dunya and support those who kill their own brothers.

We can't tell truth from false with media. Sure we hate the wests that are continously destroying the muslims, but we also hate each other.

We have swallowed in all the propaganda that we can't tell who is right and wrong anymore.

While the one trying to be closer to Allah disunite because of differences, the others are becoming agnostic and hate anything Islam by the day. While some are trying to spread the truth, others destroyed it by making fool of the religion.

Meanwhile we watch the onslaught of the Muslims. Honour has left us.

Hasbinallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.
I invited some friends over for buka puasa at my place the other day. While the adults enjoyed their meal, hopefully, the kids dashed upstairs to play. Jack and his friends played Wii.

If you are familiar with Wii you will probably know that in Wii you can create characters that you would use to play and Wii would store your record and accumulated strength. You can design a look (using their options) to suit your Wii character.

My kids designed the characters for all of us and my character is called, surprise surprise, "Ibu" and my lover: "ayah" and them in their respective names. They added some fictional characters that they use sparingly.

Anyway the kids were playing Wii and somehow while they played, this character "Ibu" kept annoying this kid. Out of his annoyance the boy exclaimed, "What is this stupid woman doing?!!"

Zachary, totally unhappy that someone called his "Ibu" stupid stood up to the boy and said,

"Don't call my mother stupid! She is clever, intelligent, creative, beautiful, fun and very cute!"

Yeah i do teach him that I am beautiful! LOL! The rest are from him Allahuma Bareek!

This was reported to me by Mrs Fath via her daughter who was there.

Jack took offense that the boy was insulting me event hough the character was not me for real. Despite that, I ask Allah that he (and my children and yours) become among those who stands for the truth and among those who differentiate truth from falsehood the way that Allah is please with.

Sayang Jack.

THE VICTORY OF BYZANTIUM

Surah Rum 30:1-4
Alif, Lam, Mim.
The Romans have been defeated in the lowest land, but after their defeat they will be victorious within three to nine years.
The affair is Allah's from beginning to end.
On that day, the believers will rejoice. (Qur'an, 30:1-4)

These verses were revealed around 620, almost 7 years after the Persians had severely defeated Christian Byzantium in 613-14. In fact, Byzantium had suffered such heavy losses that it seemed impossible for it even to survive, let alone be victorious again. Following their defeat of the Byzantines at Antioch in 613, the Persians seized control of Damascus, Cilicia, Tarsus, Armenia, and Jerusalem. The loss of Jerusalem in 614 was particularly traumatic for the Byzantines, for the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was destroyed and the Persians seized the "True Cross," the symbol of Christianity. The emperor of Byzantinne at the time is Emperor Heraclius. He scrambled to regain strength and money to defend what was left. Gold, silver and bronze of statues are melted down to fund for the army. Many governors had revolted against Heraclius, and Byzantium was on the point of collapse. Mesopotamia, Cilicia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and Armenia, which had earlier belonged to Byzantium, were invaded by the Persians.

Everyone was expecting Byzantium to be destroyed. But during this time, the first verses of Surat ar-Rum were revealed, announcing that Byzantium would triumph in 3 to 9 years. This predicted victory seemed so impossible that the Arab polytheists thought it would never come true.

In 622, Heraclius gained a number of victories over the Persians and conquered Armenia.177 In December 627, the two empires fought a decisive battle at Nineveh, some 50 kilometres east of the Tigris river, near Baghdad. This time too, the Byzantine army defeated the Persians. A few months later, the Persians had to sue for peace with Byzantium, which obliged them to return the territories they had taken from it.

The Byzantine victory was completed when Emperor Heraclius defeated the Persian ruler Khosrow II in 630, recaptured Jerusalem, and regained the "True Cross" for the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.179 In the end, "the victory of the Romans" proclaimed by Allah in the Qur'an miraculously came true within the verses' stated "three to nine years" time frame.

An interesting geographical fact that could not have been known by anyone at that time: that the Romans had been defeated in the lowest region of Earth. This Arabic expression adna al-Ard is interpreted as "a nearby place" in many translations. However, this is not the literal meaning, but rather a figurative interpretation. The word adna, derived from the word dani (low), means “the lowest”. The word ard means “the world.” Therefore, adna al-ard means "the lowest place on Earth." The Dead Sea, one of the regions in which the Byzantines were defeated in 613-14, is the lowest region on Earth.

The Byzantines and the Persians actually fought at the Dead Sea basin, which is situated at the intersection point of the lands belonging to Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. At 399 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is the "lowest" place on Earth's surface.

Also the day the the Romans won was the day that the Muslims won the Battle of Badr. The battle that is the pivot point for the Muslims onwards. And that is why in Surah Rum, Allah says the believers will rejoice. Not for the victory of the Romans but for their victory which was really against all odds.

Sadaqallahul Adzim
Indeed Allah has said the truth.

Do you know that Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. When we were in Jordan, most places are cold below 10 but after passing Mount Nebo and driving towards the Dead Sea, the temperature increases to 20+. The salinity at 31 which is 9 times the ocean. Is it the high salinity? the low level it is at?

Anyway just some info, dead sea is also losing its water. the river that goes into Dead Sea is drying up. Some naturally, some are diverted to farms and residential. Not to mention, Jordan is also facing water problem in general.

They are thinking of bringing pipleline of water from the Red sea into teh Dead Sea. from red to Dead. Would that affect the salinity and mineral contents it used to have? All the time they get freshwater from the river.

What impact would it give to the surrounding area if there is no Dead Sea. Tourism will be affected for sure. Weather also maybe, perhaps pulling the temperature of Jordan and Occupied Palestine lower.

Allah knows best.

Then we have the Dead Sea where it is believed this is where Allah's curses landed on those who transgressed and also what we know that those people committed the grave sins of homosexuality.

I remembered when I was 11 years old, I found a set of Encyclopedia for Children. In it has a picture of the Dead Sea and its amazing salt contain that make people unable to sink. I knew I must be at this place. I didn't get in the water though because my interest dwindle at this cursed place. I went there though and did taste the bitter, salty water and tested the miracle mud as people call it on my hand.

I was disappointed when I got there. It was littered everywhere. I mean for a site that is world famous, should this not be the basic thing to do? Especially for a country whose main income is tourism. It is perplexing to me.Of course there is the paid area. I suppose its cleaner there. They have toilet and towel facilities for you to wash yourself after splashing in the super salty water.

But the free area, it can sure be cleaner. Tanjung Mas Muo fare better. Having said that, you can't float unaided at the waters of Tanjung Mas Muo though.

The picture above, is at the southern part of the Dead sea area. No people here. And the view is spectacular.

Thinking back, when I read the Encyclopedia, I have always wondered about this Dead Sea. Can't believe I get to see it myself.
Since we move to this house, i sent haziq to the masjid nearby for his quran. Alhamdulilah he enjoys his class even though none of the sheiks speak english and he doesnt speak much arabic either. But well, he'll pick up here and there i suppose.

When he first had his exam with this blue eyed sheikh, he told me he couldnt even look at the sheikh. The exam was one to one and face to face. And the sheikh would look at him above his glasses with deep piercing blue eyes. Eyes so blue that you can swim in it.

Haziq further describe this exam sheikh as someone who looks so wise. You can see wisdom in his eyes in his face in his smile and in his question. Even when he singles out haziq and ask him, "hal anta tafham?"( do you understand). It is as if only wisdom springs from his speech. The fact that he speaks arabic fusha (standard arabic) makes his speech beautiful. Masya Allah!

This sheikh we always refer as The wise sheikh.

And there is another one. He is the mudir of the centre. The kahuna. Haziq describes him as a very patient man. Haziq also said his feet is like those who is firm. He has firm and steadfast feet. How do you know this Haziq. I don't know, i just feel so.

Well perhaps the sheikh is.

He is the firm and patient sheikh - based on his feet.

As long as they are good description. Otherwise better to keep it to yourself.

I ask allah that the sheikhs are even better than what we think of them. And may their good characters rub on their students.

Having said that, we are not taksub to any of Allah's creation. Allow me to share this clip. The sheikh being address is Sheikh Uthaymeen rahimullah
Yesterday haziq promised Jack that he will play football this morning. I heard this promise and I saw how excited jack was at this thought.

Qadr Allah lover, myself and haziq went out last night to visit a sick friend and came back a bit late. Haziq was already feeling tired because he is not feeling so well and he just put on braces (yeah he has robot teeth now). Fajr now is also at 3 plus in the morning. He woke up groggy and went back to sleep.

Jack, despite waking up for fajr and sleeping back and would wake up a little later on other days, woke up before 7. He then tried to wake his abang up without much success. I went to his room and saw him leaning over Haziq desperately waking him up.

I asked what he was doing and he replied abang promised me that he will play football with me today. I explained to Jack that abang came home late last night so he is a bit tired.

Then Jack cried quietly and hugged me.

Oh Jack.

I distracted him with little conversation.

Later I quietly woke Haziq up ad when he did open his eyes, I reminded him of his promise to Jack. He woke up quickly. You should see Jack's face when he saw his abang.

They are playing ball outside as I type.

May they become the comfort of their eyes to each other as well as mine.

It is important that when you make a promise, to fulfill it. Do not even offer them sweet just to distract their attention but in actual fact you will not give him anything. This is lying and on top of that you are teaching your child how to lie also.
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “My mother called me one day when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in our house. She said, ‘Come here, and I will give you (something).’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘What do you want to give him?’ She said, ‘I will give him a date.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘If you had not given him something, you would have been lying.’”
