Sesedih sedih aku pun..

As much as I am sad of the demise of my mum, I think it cannot be compared to my friend's sadness.

Ms Y just lost her father. Ms Y is a revert and the rest of her family are not. Knowing that her father died as a disbeliever distraught her tremendously. For we all know the fate of the disbelievers.

I have no words to comfort her. I am just lending her my ears...

We had a small talk with Ukht Waf. And Ms Y raised a few questions..

My father is living in a country which has no knowledge of Islam. The only knowledge of Islam we have is the man can marry four, the muslims do not eat pork and they like to fight and create war. We know nothing of Islam. Can this be considered as deprived of the knowledge of Islam that Allah may forgive one for that?

(silence filled the room)

You know my father never worshiped idols. He does not believe in all that. I have talked to him. He believes in God. Can that be considered he is not a mushrik?

(further silence)

When I heard he was really sick, I told my sister to put the phone on his ears, and I recited the shahadah to his ears. Who knows that he actually believe then.

(still silence)

Can I make a dua for him?

No. Sister you cannot.

I cannot? Not at all? But if we are righteous child, we can make dua for our parents..

Only if the parents are muslim sister.

And Ms Y cried.

And I further realised how much Merciful Allah is. Even after the death of our parents, we can still pray for their forgiveness. And their good deeds and good ilmu they spread will still work for them. Do we even realise how comforting that is to our heart? Knowing we can do such and such for our parents and also for ourselves?

Teringat kisah Nabi Muhammad masa the Year of Grief. masa time ni, the muslims kena economy sanction by the Quraish. Tahun ni jugalah Khadijah r.a. dan juga bapa saudara nabi, Abu Talib meninggal dunia.

Kita semua tau kan, despite the closeness of our Prophet s.a.w. to his uncle, his uncle remained a mushrik till the day he died. This grieved our prophet very much. And he made dua to seek for forgiveness for his uncle. And Allah revealed this verse

It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allâh's Forgiveness for the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief). Tawbah 9: 113

This ayah was also revealed

Verily! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allâh guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided Al Qasas 28:56

Dan teringat jugak kisah Nabi Nuh. When he pleaded his son, who was a disbeliever, to follow him to the ark. But his son refused and claimed that he can save himself by climbing up the mountain. He was later engulfed in the high water.

As a father, Prophet Noah a.s., was sad to see his son died in the water, he asked Allah.

And Nûh (Noah) called upon his Lord and said, "O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true, and You are the Most Just of the judges." Hud 11:45

Allah said to him

He said: "O Nûh (Noah)! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant." Hud 11:46

And Prophet Noah a.s. repented

Nûh (Noah) said: "O my Lord! I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I will indeed be one of the losers." Hud 11:47

The same goes for Prophet Noah a.s wife and Prophet Lut's a.s. wife. Both the women were perished due to their disbelieve

Allah has made an example for those who are an unbelieving people: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut. They were married to two of Our servants who were believers, but they betrayed them and were not helped at all against Allah. They were told: "Enter the Fire along with all who enter it." (Surat at-Tahrim 66: 10)

Not to forget the infamous of all Prophet Muhammad's uncle, Abu Lahab.

Perish the two hands of Abû Lahab (an uncle of the Prophet), and perish he![] (1) His wealth and his children will not benefit him! (2) He will be burnt in a Fire of blazing flames! (3) And his wife too, who carries wood (thorns of Sadan which she used to put on the way of the Prophet (SAW) , or use to slander him)[]. (4) In her neck is a twisted rope of Masad (palm fibre).Al Massad 111:1-5

And all of them remained to be among those who disbelieve despite having the best of opportunities being the closest to the prophets and their final abode is the Jahannam.

Allah knows best.

Hugs Ms Y.

I pray that all of us and also our family will not die unless we are in the state of Islam.

that is so sad! :( naudzubillah min zalik!

i like the way you put the Quranic verses like that. it really answers any arguments we might have about this. sometimes we have doubts in our heart and rasa tak puas hati with how things are. but Allah's word is the last word and He is right.. not us.

we must give thanks to Allah many times every day that He made us born Muslim and stay as Muslim and hopefully keep us Muslim Ameen.

my heart goes to Ms Y too :(

i think most non muslim thinks islam/muslims = war/terrorist, sad isn't it?

aliya - I wanted to tell Ms Y but very afraid to say the wrong things. Tapi unfortunately the verses I put here are limited to my very shallow knowledge. Even though I don't think I will tell Ms Y all these (unless she ask), but it helps me to understand what to say and also what to feel. If you have anything, tell me.

I pray that we all stay guided. Ameen. Ameen

zan - tulah. all these Muslim image goes deep down. Hopefully we can try to be better ambassadors without sacrificing what Islam is.

"For we all know the fate of the disbelievers."

Fuh. I did not know I have that ability.

How about the parents of our Prophet, Sallahu 'Alaihi Wasssalam?

Does Aminah and Abdullah go to Hell too? Are we sure Aminah, Abdullah, Abdul Muttalib, Abu Talib, go to Hell?

Fuh.

Nice to be Muslims: We are sure who gets to go to Hell and who gets to go to Heaven.

Fuhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

From Ibn Kathir (quoting from At Tabari)

Ibn Jarir recorded that Sulayman bin Buraydah said that his father said, "When the Prophet s.a.w. came to Mekkah, he went to the grave, sat next to it, started talking and then stood up with tears in his eyes. We said, "O Allah's Messenger! We saw what you did". He said

"I asked my Lord for permission to visit the grave of my mother and he gave me permission. I asked for permission to invoke Him for forgiveness for her, but He did not give me permission."

We never saw him more tearful that day.
Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 2129

Like I said my knowledge is only this much. From what I read, Abu Talib will go to hell. His azab, however, will be the lightest and Allah will place him in the fire that will only be burnt up to his ankle. Even that, will cause his brain to boil. Tapi malas nak cari evident. Plus in the ayah Tawbah :113, that one is referring to Abu Talib.

What I wrote down there is what Allah has promised hell for them. What is there to argue about? Apa pulak sebok nak tanya orang yang Allah tak mention? Allah has said if you do not believe in me, your place in hell. And Allah knows best what he should do with people who died before the message came to them.

If there is other narration of what Allah has reveal to the Prophet that you know about, kasi taulah. Bukan fuhhhhh sana fuhhh sini.

It is nice to be Muslim because we know clear description who goes to hell or heaven. But what is not clear whether I can go to heaven because at the moment I still do not fit the description of dwellers of Paradise.

My contention is that we are putting unnecessary stress and pressures to those who believe. Hilang keindahan Islam bila we focus on the stick rather on carrot.

Whatever happened to ALLAH's mercy?

Islam is reduced to arithmetics and vengeance.

KakNi said...

Aku tak faham hansac ni kata apa tp... mmglah kasihan pd Ms Y. Berat mata memandang berat lg bahu memikulnya tapi sbg sahabat hg soh lar dia sabar... dia tgh sedih tu nak nasihat byk2 lg dia stress pulak...

Lollies said...

hansac - I understand what you are saying. Indeed Allah is merciful. he has promise this to us too. In fact we can see His mercy everywhere. To be a Muslim is a mercy by itself.

And plus this entry is totally my doing. All faults are from me. You have any other input so I can add to the mercy part? Eh! I knnow one mercy story. Haiya! nak kena korek kejap.

in brief:
This guy he killed 99 man. But in his jeart he knows its wrong. So one day he asked this orang alim. And this orang alim kata..what? 99 people? You will surely go to hell! So this serial killer sangat marah and killed that orang alim also. Now dah jadi 100.

Still dia tau he has to do something. And he met another guy and told him his condition. That guy said Allah is merciful. Repent to Him and Insya Allah He will forgive you for He loves forgiving. But I advice you to go away from this kampung (so that he can repent better. kalau tak hijrah banyak santa orang judgemental dan mungkin menyebabkan susah untuk berubah).

So that guy went tapi tak sampai lagi wherever he is supose to go, he died.

Ayoo ending dia makcik tak ingat sangat exactly. But basically Allah forgives him. Gitulah.

ada one more story. Hmm this one I'd beter get the betul2 story. Some other timelah.

I know only some carrots for now. Paradise. How? Believe and obey. Part obey tu, makcik ni masih ketinggalan lagi. :(

akuni - hansac meant well. no worries.

eh aku taklah ceritakan benda ni kat Ms Y. Tak sampai hatilah wei. Cuma she was told by ukht wafa (who is in a better position to tell her) that you cannot ask forgiveness even for your closest kin who died as a non believer. This is as per verse tawbah: 113.

Ir. Hanafi Ali said...

[Lollies if you think you have known me long/well enough such that awak rasa awak boleh marah saya for what I have said, I would like to say, yes! Thanks for the intimacy. I take that as a good thing and glad that you find me a friend (word "friend" used as an adjective not a noun) enough to scold me ha ha.]

Tak, saya cuma tension looking at Islam the way it is practiced now. Buat certain things, dapat certain number of pahala, dapat masuk syurga. Syurga pun ada kelas-kelas nya. We forget that we masuk syurga atas rahmat ALLAH bukan atas usaha kita. This does not mean kita tak payah puasa/solat/do good! I have always believed Islam is mid-way between Christianity and Judaism. Whilst Judaism focused totally on methods (eg, kosher is kosher not just by intention but also by 'how'), Christianity mainly say, salvation is by grace of God "totally", not by work at all.

Our concept of God and Divinity is now reduced to what certain people think what the religion should be, and not based on our understanding and relation to God Himself.

In a way it is very much like Catholicism, clergy as intermediary.

Back to Ms Y, well, I like to point out what Shaikh Nazim (of the Naqshbandi tariqat) once said, or perhaps have said many times.

The longest time in the world is the time when Malaikatul Maut is about to pull the roh out of the body. And within this time the person is still within ALLAH mercy, and who knows what happen during this time? Maybe ALLAH has forgiven him, maybe He has not. We are only able to treat his lifeless body based on his faith when he is alive, but our memory of him, our compassionate for him, should not be altered by what we "think" he will end up.

Pujuk lah Ms Y. Tell her to doa nonetheless. So what if God does not want to grant, bukankah kita ni hamba dan bukankah tugas kita cuma meminta? Bab ALLAH nak bagi ke tak tu bukan urusan kita.

Thanks !

Thanks a Lot.

hansac - I hope not to come to the situation where I have to be intimate with you again. :P

I like your point about mid way between judaism and christianity. That definitely struck a chord.

Jo - errr you are welcome? Tapi err untuk apa ya?

So sebak.. to read this.

Tell Mdm Y, you are not trying to contradict Ukht Waf, but like you said, Allah knows what is true, Allah knows what is in her heart, and her father's heart. Go ahead and pray for her father if it makes her feel better. Allah is merciful. She can pray that IF her father did repent in the end, place him in jannah. Whatever Allah decrees is His right, and we have to accept it.

Please hug Y for me..

Lollies said...

I am praying that Allah will give comfort to her heart. And that Allah makes it easy for her to spread the true message to her existing family. To tell her to pray for the father..hmm..Allahuaklam. If Allah decrees, then so He will.

Being a nice friend you are, Ms Y surely appreciate your hugs and ears. That is the least we can do... amin, semoga kita sentiasa mendapat keampunan Allah.

I like this entry as well as comments by hansac. It is never easy to be opinionated and being received well as well. And I do tend to agree with him in terms of letting Allah be the judge not us mere mortals. We try and doa as we might and let Him decide.

Lollies said...

shidah - Insya Allah

mosh - dear friend. Judging someone is not the intention of this entry, Astaghfirullah. I am sorry that that idea was perceived by some. Indeed it was my shortcoming of relaying the information. Perhaps I know Ms Y too well.

Whether we are in the end a believer or a non (I seek refuge with Allah against this), only Allah knows. This entry is what is spelt concerning seeking forgiveness for those who are a clear disbeliever and who has uttered a big NO to accepting the true word.

Otherwise whether we are of the muttaqin, believer of kuffar, hypocrites, Allah knows best.

mosh said...

eh no lah. it never crossed my mind that the entry is about judging anybody. i'm not sure how you got the idea. surely due the shortcomings of me putting my own thoughts into words ehehe.

Insya-allah this entry would count as one of your dakwah.

Lollies said...

mosh - Alhamdullilah that we all those clear. As usual I jumped into conclusion too quickly. I have not changed that much you know Mosh. ;) And Insya Allah for the benefits of the readers (ada ka ni? hahahah), I have to explain.

How is the little one doing?

Knowing you all these while, my attack (yes I admit it was an attack) was not for you at all. It is for the ustazahs/ustazs the world over who are very sure of things.

I also do not thing you're being judgmental. WE ALL have followed your blog long enough to know you're not one judgmental person.

Ir. Hanafi Ali said...

Ehehehe. Jumping to conclusions is what we do to each other all the time. That part I don't think you've changed yet :p

I should put up an entry about the little one kan? I would in the near future. Sorting out the photos and taking some more. Haven't been taking many of his. Kurang comel lah newborn with those clueless expressions on the face. Difficult to get good expression.

Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 58 :: Hadith 224

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

That he heard the Prophet when somebody mentioned his uncle (i.e. Abu Talib), saying, "Perhaps my intercession will be helpful to him on the Day of Resurrection so that he may be put in a shallow fire reaching only up to his ankles. His brain will boil from it."
