Two Umrahs

We did umrah once and filled our time in Makkah with other voluntary acts. Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and his companions never did multiple umrahs in one trip. At least this is what I know. May Allah accept our ibadah, ameen.

But Haziq said he did umrah twice.

And why is that, Haziq?

Because I prayed in Masjid Quba in Madinah, he said.

Masya Allah!

Amboi! Amboi! Amboi! Sudah mula lawan tokeh ini macam. :P

This is as according to this following hadith.

"One who does wudhu' at home, then offers prayers in Quba Mosque is entitled to the reward of an Umrah."

Ahmad, Nasa'i, Ibn Majah and Hakim

I have no idea the authenticity of this hadith though. But in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, it says it is authentic and in the book History of Madinah Al Munawarah (darussalam) says it was authenticated and confirmed by the researcher 'Allush. Allah knows best.

Regardless, Masjid Quba was made reference in the Quran (Tawbah 9:108). Allah encourages His Prophet s.a.w. to pray in Masjid Quba's, which, from the first day, was built on taqwa, obedience of Allah and His Messenger s.a.w., for gathering the word of the believers and as an outpost and a fort for Islam and its people. (This verse is also sent down to not allow the Prophet s.a.w. to pray in a masjid near Quba which was built by the hypocrites of Madinah as a fort against Islam. Long story. Some other timelah)

Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allâh loves those who make themselves clean and pure (i.e. who clean their private parts with dust [which has the cleansing properties of soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature]. (Tawbah 9:108)

salam anne,

First of all saya bukan ustazah or even anywhere near being learned. Yang I share really is from the little knowledge that I have.

I suggest that you also ask the learned ones. And I pray that you find people who really hold on to the quran and sunnah.

Ok back to your question. There is no direct hadith that Rasulullah did not perform multiple umrahs at one time. But there is this hadith that rasulullah performed four umrahs at DIFFERENT time.

The Book of Pilgrimage (Kitab Al-Hajj)
Muslim :: Book 7 : Hadith 2879

Qatida saia. that Anas (Allah be pleased with him) had informed him that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) performed four 'Umras, all during the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da except the one he performed along with Hajj (and these are) the Umra that he performed from al-Hudaibiya or during the time of (the truce of) Hudaibiya in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da then the Umra of the next year in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da, then the Umra for which b'e had started from ji'rana, the place where he distributed the spoils of (the battle of) Hunain in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da, and then the 'Umra that he performed along with his Hajj (on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage).

This hadith says that Rasulullah did four umrahs at DIFFERENT times. Surely if rasulullah s.a.w. think there is great benefit of performing multiple umrahs, he would have be the first one to do so and so would his companions.

Instead, it is better to do lot of sunnah acts like tawaf sunat and pelbagai sembahyang sunat. Indeed the reward of performing a prayer and doing a good deed is multiplied by 100,000 times in masjidil haram.

I know it is very tempting to do bigger deeds (if we look at doing multiple umrah as a bigger deed compared to doing other sunnahs). but the bigger fear is doing something that Rasulullah saw did not do (in term of ibadah) and thus we are at the risk of innovating.

The Book Pertaining to Judicial Decisions (Kitab Al-Aqdiyya)
Muslim :: Book 18 : Hadith 4266

'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.

So I prefer to stick to the one with 100% certainty rather than hearsay basis. Allah know best.

Anne, I have never heard of that hadith 7 umrahs=1 hajj. But that may be because of my ignorance. If you do please inform me quickly. While on your side do take the initiative to check for the authenticity of the hadith. This is important to keep upright of our deen.

Are you going for your umrah soon Anne. If you are, I pray that Allah will make the trip easy for you and He will accept your ibadah. Ameen.
